The Story Behind This Starry Pearl Necklace
The Star Shaped Pearl Necklace was my way of putting a little night sky around the neck. Each baroque star pearl has its own tiny “twinkle” – a soft, lustrous glow – and together they form a small constellation, especially when the light catches them. It’s the kind of freshwater pearl necklace that feels made for daydreamers and quiet romantics.
Back in 2021, these star shaped pearls were the heart of my little shop. I launched my website with them, packed my very first orders with them, and they quickly became my best-selling star pearl necklace on Etsy. If you’ve followed me from those early days, you’ve probably seen them many times on my Instagram.
After 2022, though, star pearls became harder and harder to find – especially the purple ones. Just getting the star shape is already a small miracle in freshwater baroque pearl farming; asking for good color and strong luster on top of that is almost like asking the lake for a favor. Many pearl farmers began planting more round pearls instead, simply because they’re easier to grade and bring higher profit. So I stopped listing these star pearls on other platforms and kept the remaining batches just for here – for the people who somehow find their way to this corner of the internet.
White Star Pearls vs. Purple Star Pearls
Each necklace is slightly different. Some star pearls lean more violet, others drift toward a soft blush pink; the white star pearls stay closer to a calm, classic white with a gentle glow. They’re never perfectly identical, and I think that’s what makes this baroque star pearl necklace feel so alive.
- If you prefer a more consistent, traditional look, the white star shaped pearl necklace is the safer choice.
- If you don’t mind a little surprise in tone – something that feels like it chose you – the purple star pearl necklace has a way of finding the right person.
Notes
- No two pieces will ever look exactly the same as the photos — every star pearl has its own shape, glow, and quiet personality. The one that finds its way to you will be the only one of its kind.
- Each piece is handmade in the studio, so it may take up to 5 days to finish. If you need it sooner, just email or DM us — we’ll do our best to move your order ahead for you.
Care Instructions
Treat your star pearl necklace like any fine freshwater pearl jewelry:
- Avoid long contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions, or other chemicals.
- Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wearing; avoid rough paper tissues.
- Store separately from sharp metal pieces to prevent scratches on the baroque pearls.
Q&A – About Star Shaped Pearls
Q: Are star pearls real?
Yes. These are real freshwater pearls that naturally grew into star-like baroque shapes. They are not resin, glass or plastic; they’re genuine star shaped freshwater baroque pearls from our pearl suppliers and farms.
Q: What makes a star shaped pearl necklace special?
Unlike perfectly round pearls, star shaped pearls are a rare baroque form. Each star has its own outline and luster, so your star shaped pearl necklace will never be exactly the same as anyone else’s. It has a more playful, celestial feeling than a classic round pearl strand.
Q: Are these pearls dyed or natural color?
The white star pearls are classic white freshwater pearls. The purple and blush-toned star pearls come from warmer-toned mussels and careful selection. As with many baroque pearls, there can be slight natural variation in tone across the necklace.
Q: Is this suitable for everyday wear?
Yes. This baroque pearl necklace is light and easy to wear with T-shirts, dresses, sweaters or shirts. Just remember the basic rules for freshwater pearl jewelry care — last on, first off, and avoid harsh chemicals.
Q: How does this compare to a classic pearl necklace?
A classic round pearl necklace feels more traditional and formal. A star shaped pearl necklace feels more personal and whimsical — like carrying a small piece of the night sky with you. Many of my customers wear this when they want pearls, but still want to keep a bit of playfulness in their style.
