I’ve always had a soft spot for baroque pearls that don’t fit the usual idea of “pretty” — and these square-shaped freshwater baroque pearls are exactly that.
For this baroque pearl pendant, I started with about 9kg of square-shaped baroque pearls and slowly narrowed it down to around 200 pieces that felt right for this design. I wanted each pearl to have a clear, solid square silhouette and a strong, sharp glow — like a tiny, imperfect sculpture you can wear on your chest.
The bail is made by hand from silver wire, wrapped into a small “9” shape. I chose this on purpose, because it lets me control the size and proportion of the loop for each individual pearl instead of using a standard factory finding. No two baroque pearls are exactly alike, so I prefer to let the bail adapt to the pearl, not the other way around.
For the chain, I use a fine snake chain in sterling silver or plated gold. It has more structure than a regular cable chain, so when you wear this square shaped pearl pendant, the chain doesn’t just collapse and disappear into the fabric — it holds a gentle line and keeps the baroque pearl sitting in the right place. The metal color also pushes the light back into the pearl, making its luster and reflections more visible without feeling too shiny.
When you actually wear it, you get a small, modern-looking freshwater pearl necklace that feels intentional but not loud. It adds just enough structure to a simple T-shirt or knit, and with a shirt or blazer it reads as clean and a little architectural. It’s not the kind of pendant that tries to look perfect; it’s the kind that quietly tells people you chose something with character.
Notes – Natural Baroque Pearls
- Every baroque freshwater pearl is unique, with natural variations in color, shape and luster.
- The surface may show irregularities or small imperfections — that is part of the charm of real baroque pearls.
- We will always do our best to select high-quality pearls, but we cannot guarantee an exact match to the photos. If you prefer perfectly uniform pearls, this style may not be the right fit.
Pearl Care Tips
Pearl jewelry is delicate and needs a bit of care to stay beautiful:
- Avoid long contact with chemicals (perfume, hairspray, lotions) and direct sunlight.
- Wipe your baroque pearl pendant gently with a soft cloth after wearing; avoid rough paper tissues.
- Store your freshwater pearl necklace separately from sharp metal pieces to prevent scratches.
